Lenovo top smartphone brand of 2015, says Flipkart
Online retail website Flipkart on Thursday announced that Lenovo has emerged as the top smartphone brand of the year in 2015. "According to #FlipTrends, a year ender report by Flipkart, Lenovo A6000 Plus and Lenovo K3 Note were the top two most sought after smartphones in 2015," said Flipkart in an official statement.
According to Flipkart, 2015 has been the year of affordable 4G phones. Both Lenovo A6000 Plus and K3 Note are priced at Rs.7,499 and Rs.9,999 respectively. Lenovo's 3 Note will soon have a successor in the K4 Note . It would be interesting to see how Lenovo prices this one, as at the end of the day it would decide how things turn out for the Chinese company in 2016.
Lenovo is followed closely by Motorola Mobility. While the Moto G (Gen 3) took the third place, the Moto E (Gen 2) occupied the sixth position as per the report. Motorola is owned by Lenovo.
"Xiaomi Mi 4i and Redmi Note 4G took fourth and fifth spots followed by Samsung Galaxy On7, Samsung Galaxy J7, Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 and Asus Zenfone 5," according to Flipkart.
Lenovo (Motorola), and Xiaomi are Chinese companies while Samsung comes from South Korea. Meanwhile, Asus is from Taiwan. The only home grown brand occupying the list is Micromax. That being said, it must be remembered that many of the phones in the list are exclusive to Flipkart. Of course, Flipkart is among the leading e-retailers in the country, and considering the popularity of Lenovo (and Motorola) phones in the country, it's not so surprising to see them reaching a season peak in 2015. Hopefully, 2016 will be even better.
