It was a busy street. There was an extra rush due to the office hours. Everybody was in a hurry. It was difficult for Darshan to negotiate the vendors sitting on the footpath. He was trying his best to avoid running into people and keeping himself on course. He had to reach the crossroad and wait at the Zebra crossing. His throat was dry and his chest was thumping with anxiety, yet he had to reach the crossroad.He was hurriedly moving his white stick to sense the obstacles. The path was not new to him. He had traveled on this path again and again for almost a moth now - to and fro - so it has become a habit now.



He had now reached the crossing. He could sense it because the sound of vehicles rushing by was coming from all four sides. This was the place he wanted to reach - as if his whole being depended on it. Now he will have to wait at the Zebra lines going towards the other side. Will it happen again today? He waited patiently yet impatient within. Surely, he didn't have to wait fore long. He could feel the faint smell coming. Slowly, the scintillating perfume grew stronger in intensity and then he could hear those foot steps. Those well known sounds, firm but deliberate, clicking of high heels, so confident but not arrogant, and then that touch, soft feminine touch of slender fingers on his wrist. He could feel her bangle against his skin. No words spoken and she was guiding him across the road to the other side of his existence. He completely surrendered himself by lifting up his stick off the ground. He didn't need to know where he was going. A gentle nudge told him when he had to turn - to left or right - walking meandering paths to oblivion - it was his best chance to get lost in the fantasy land - where his wildest imaginations took the shape of reality. Was his blindness a bane or boon, he was unable to decide
